AEW Dynamite Results

The show is live!

Kenny Omega warns Will Ospreay about The Death Riders

Will Ospreay bumps into Kenny Omega in the trainer’s room. Omega asks if he can talk to Ospreay for a second. Omega addresses the elephant in the room, The Death Riders, telling Ospreay he can’t trust those guys. He says they kept their word when they said they were going to break Ospreay’s neck. Omega tells Ospreay he should’ve just asked for his help instead of going to The Death Riders, to which Ospreay replies he would’ve if Omega had been around.

Omega says he can’t be here every week. Ospreay questions why not and brings up Omega’s claims that he’s the best version of himself. Omega says he’s struggling to bounce back, not just mentally but physically, ever since failing to beat MJF for the AEW World Championship. He says he’s not the same guy he once was, just as Ospreay isn’t the same guy he once was, but they could do crazy things if they stick together.

Again, Omega gets the appeal of The Death Riders because they get things done, but he wants Ospreay to be careful as a friend. Jon Moxley pops up and says that was one hell of a piece of advice. He then hands Ospreay some ice and leaves.

Omega tells Ospreay he’ll leave him to do his neck bridges with The Death Riders, but if he needs him anytime, just call him. Ospreay says “for sure” and asks Omega not to give up on his world title aspirations, to which Omega replies, “You too.”

Kevin Knight addresses his actions at AEW Double or Nothing

Kevin Knight is in the ring. Knight compares Darby Allin’s world title loss to MJF to the Sixers losing to the Knicks. The crowd boos, but Knight tells them he’s on their side. Knight says he decided he wasn’t going to trust the process anymore and did what he had to do.

He brings up his successful TNT Championship defense against MJF, claiming it should’ve been him facing Friedman in the AEW Double or Nothing main event. Instead, Knight says he was watching from the sidelines and questions if he looks like a bench player. The crowd responds with “yes” chants.

Knight says he’s a highlight every time he’s in the ring and declares that he’s here to take over this whole damn company. He then proudly recalls attacking Darby Allin and leaving him in a pool of his own blood at Double or Nothing, prompting “f*** you” chants from the crowd.

JetSpeed no more!

Speedball Mike Bailey interrupts. Bailey tells Knight he got impatient and ahead of himself and made a mistake, but he can fix that if he just apologizes and owns up to his actions. He then extends his arm for a handshake.

Knight teases a handshake only to shoulder-bump his tag team partner instead. He then turns on Bailey by hitting him with a lariat. Knight proceeds to leave the ring but comes back to hit Bailey with a modified version of the Rock Bottom. He then taunts the crowd as Taz defends him on commentary, suggesting maybe Knight never liked Bailey at all.

Ricochet addresses upcoming match on AEW Dynamite

Renee Paquette asks Ricochet if he thinks Chris Jericho has momentum heading into their match tonight on AEW Dynamite, especially after the way Jericho beat Bishop Kaun with the Lionsault at AEW Double or Nothing.

Ricochet says he’s not concerned about Jericho. Kaun chimes in by saying Jericho only won because he was outnumbered seven-to-one. Ricochet complains about Gates of Agony being banned from ringside tonight for his match against Jericho. Toa Liona calls it a travesty.

Ricochet says he welcomes the opportunity because Jericho won’t have six other guys there to save his ass. Ricochet boasts about his two victories over Jericho, using Y2J’s own “ever” catchphrase to reiterate his point. Toa Liona mocks Jericho for having a “weak-ass Lionsault.”

Ricochet claims he’s going to prove tonight that he’s out of this world and caps off the promo with his signature laugh.

Ricochet vs. Chris Jericho

  • The finish of the match saw Chris Jericho hit Ricochet with a Lionsault for the win.

Winner: Chris Jericho

Jericho’s celebration is cut short by a cheap attack from Tommaso Ciampa. The Psycho Killer blasts Y2J with a barrage of lefts and rights before taking off his shirt and attempting to choke Jericho out.

Ciampa then drops Jericho with a running knee strike. He adds insult to injury by placing his foot on Jericho and mocking his signature pose as we move on to the next match of the night.

Grade: A-

Ricochet was absolutely the right opponent for Chris Jericho’s first feud in over a year. I have to admit I was skeptical of the rivalry when it started, but they proved me wrong with their first singles match at AEW Dynasty. Tonight’s match didn’t disappoint either.

Jericho pulled off some huge moves, including a Death Valley Driver on the apron. The Judas Effect/Lionsault combo looked great as well. Ricochet also deserves credit for being such a pro during the finish, subtly adjusting himself so Jericho could safely connect with the Lionsault.

I also liked how they instantly transitioned Jericho into his next feud with the surprise attack from Tommaso Ciampa.

We hear from Andrade

Andrade says he’s now focused on winning the AEW World Championship now that the “stupid Stadium Stampede is over.” El Idolo questions whether MJF thinks he’s better than a real Latino man, even mocking the AEW World Champion with his “how you know” catchphrase.

Orange Cassidy vs. RUSH vs. Brian Cage vs. Lio Rush – Superstation Showcase 4-Way

  • The finish of the match saw RUSH hit Lio Rush with Bull’s Horns for the win.

Winner: RUSH

Grade: B+

RUSH finally picked up a win on AEW Dynamite after what felt like an eternity of squashing jobbers on Collision. It’s probably safe to assume he’s going to insert himself into the AEW World Championship picture immediately because I don’t see many other directions for El Toro Blanco right now.

Kevin Knight confronts MJF

MJF is seen dragging the AEW World Championship behind him. He leaves the belt on the floor, saying the Triple B is back on his shoulders.

Before Friedman can answer Renee Paquette’s question, Kevin Knight shows up. MJF says he’s been wanting to speak to Knight about his actions at Double or Nothing. Friedman believes Knight did what he did because he wanted to show respect to him.

As Friedman prepares to leave, Knight stops him and says he didn’t lay out Darby Allin for MJF. Instead, Knight claims Allin blew an opportunity that should’ve been his. Knight vows to become the AEW World Champion one day.

Friedman tells him goals are good before saying he’ll see him around. As MJF leaves, Kyle Fletcher walks into the frame and tells Knight he has a good-looking belt on his shoulder. Don Callis then appears and speaks with Knight, teasing a possible alliance as the segment comes to a close.

Mark Briscoe video package

A video package featuring Mark Briscoe airs on AEW Dynamite.

MJF entrance on AEW Dynamite

MJF gets a royal entrance ahead of his promo segment on AEW Dynamite. Friedman lifts the old AEW World Championship and tosses it from his throne as commentary brings up the rare group of men who have become AEW World Champion at the age of 30.

We hear from the Brawling Birds

Jamie Hayter says she came up short against Thekla in the four-way for the Women’s World Championship at AEW Double or Nothing, but she did manage to take her head off with the Hayterade and that she will get her hands on the AEW Women’s World Championship again.

Renee Paquette asks Alex Windsor for her comments on Willow Nightingale’s injury announcement. Windsor wishes the former TBS Champion a speedy recovery before addressing her match against the wild card entry in the Owen Women’s Tournament.

We hear from MJF

Cameras take us back to the ring where MJF is bragging about being a three-time world champion at 30 years old. Friedman says he will be remembered until the sun explodes. He then mocks the Philadelphia crowd and tells them to be remotely cognizant of how fortunate they are to witness him in real time. The crowd boos.

MJF stares into the camera and tells viewers they are living in the greatest era, one defined by him. He puts himself over as a three-time world champion, calling himself the most complete professional wrestler and a generational talent.

Mark Briscoe wants a shot at the AEW World Champio

Mark Briscoe shows up and rips the giant banner that reads “3x World Champion.” MJF is livid and tells production to cut Briscoe’s music. The crowd starts chanting “ECW,” to which MJF responds, “Dead company.”

Briscoe puts over the Philadelphia crowd and says MJF sticks out like a sore thumb. He questions Friedman’s claims of being tough and brings up his previous victory over him before calling for a title shot against the AEW World Champion.

Friedman denies Briscoe a title shot and explains that he is the only one who understands All Elite Wrestling from a business point of view. He mocks Darby Allin’s world title run before telling Briscoe he is nowhere near on the level of The Devil.

MJF leaves the ring but gets interrupted on the ramp by RUSH, who also wants a title shot. Friedman cracks a few jokes before accepting RUSH’s challenge, setting up a match for next week’s AEW Dynamite.

Jack Perry training montage ft. Dinosaur Man

Jack Perry is on his bus hyping up his AEW National Tour. Perry teases going after the AEW World Championship. He drops an F-bomb when the bus stops and Luchasaurus tells him to begin his training.

We then see a Rocky-esque training sequence from the former Jungle Boy as he prepares for his Owen Hart Foundation Tournament quarterfinal round match against AEW National Champion Mark Davis later tonight on Dynamite.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brody King – Owen Hart Cup

  • The finish of the match saw Brody King hit Claudio Castagnoli with a lariat for the win.

Winner: Brody King

Grade: B+

This was a slobberknocker. Claudio Castagnoli and Brody King beat the tar out of each other with those haymakers. King has been trying to regain his momentum ever since the World Title program with MJF, and the victory tonight seems like a step in the right direction.

We hear from Cope and Cage

The AEW World Tag Team Champions are in the ring.

Cage begins to cut his “conduct my business” catchphrase, but Cope stops him in the middle. Christian says it doesn’t look like he was about to say he banged the crowd’s mothers. “Maybe I did,” he adds. Cope says the 90s were a pretty wild time. Cage puts over FTR as being true to their claims of toughness. He says FTR are top guys, but they aren’t “tippy top” like he and Cope, as they raise the AEW World Tag Team Titles.

Cope explains their mentality heading into the “I Quit” match and says they are now at the top. The crowd chants for a Five Second Pose. Cage says they don’t make flash photography anymore.

Cope says that’s where he’s wrong and goes out of the ring to grab a handful of disposable cameras he says he bought 20 years ago from a store just for this occasion. He then hands sections of the crowd disposable cameras as Cage fumes inside the ring.

Cope returns to the ring and is in the middle of completing his “for the benefit of those with flash photography” catchphrase when they are attacked by The Dogs.

David Finlay and Clark Connors bring Cage to the ringside steel steps, where Finlay attacks Cage’s injured wrist with a shillelagh. Connors then delivers a double stomp on the wrist trapped under the steel steps.

Finlay then hits Cage with the shillelagh inside the ring. He sets up Cope for a spear from Connors. Connors grabs the mic and The Dogs present a Five Second Pose, declaring themselves the new AEW World Tag Team Champions.

TayJay vs. Allie Katch & Ava Everett

Tay Melo and Anna Jay defeat their opponents in a showcase match.

Swerve Strickland sends a message to Brody King

Prince Nana recaps Swerve Strickland’s victory over Bandido in the opening round of the Owen Tournament at AEW Double or Nothing. Nana sounds confident in Strickland’s chances of winning the Owen and going to Wembley for a shot at the AEW World Championship.

Strickland congratulates Brody King on his victory earlier tonight on AEW Dynamite. He takes credit for King breaking out in the industry back in 2016. Strickland says he doesn’t even know if Bandido is in the hospital following their match in New York.

He adds that one thing he’s learned about making money in this country is that conflict creates cash and war makes money, and he plans on making a lot of money with Brody King. Strickland says he’ll see King in round two.

As he exits the frame, Prince Nana asks, “Whose house?”

Mike Bailey issues a challenge

Mike Bailey says he offered Kevin Knight a handshake and was met with an attack. If that’s the road Knight wants to walk, Bailey has no problem walking it with him.

He then challenges his former tag team partner to a match.

Jack Perry vs. Mark Davis – Owen Hart Cup

  • The finish of the match saw Mark Davis hit Jack Perry with an avalanche piledriver for the win.

Winner: Mark Davis

Grade: A-

The right guy won. I’m glad Mark Davis is finding his footing as a solo guy after his tag team success with Kyle Fletcher. Poor Jack Perry might need some new wrestling boots after they came flying off during the apron spot. The match-ending piledriver looked amazing.

We hear from Kyle Fletcher

Kyle Fletcher is in the ring. The Protostar reflects on the seriousness of his injury and says he made his return within two months. Fletcher calls himself a genetic anomaly for his quick recovery before announcing he is cleared for in-ring action.

He then references his attack on Konosuke Takeshita at AEW Double or Nothing, calling him dead weight that Fletcher took out of The Don Callis Family. Fletcher says he has been trying to keep the family together for the better part of a year, and the moment he was away due to injury, Takeshita destroyed the group because he only cares about himself.

Konosuke Takeshita’s music hits and the AEW International Champion appears. But Takeshita isn’t alone, as he is joined by The Conglomeration. They make their way to the ring, causing The Don Callis Family to disperse.

Takeshita has the mic and says he got the International Title back. The crowd responds by chanting “You deserve it.” He then challenges Fletcher to a match as we move on to the next segment of AEW Collision.

Will Ospreay hypes up Owen Hart semifinal

Will Ospreay congratulates Mark Davis for advancing in the Owen Hart Tournament. Ospreay calls Davis a big hairy bastard and reflects on their history. He jokes that Davis stayed in his house for a year and didn’t pay him rent.

He then references their previous singles meeting that ended via referee stoppage. Ospreay says he was at 50 percent then, but he is at 100 percent now.

Jon Moxley pops up and gives Ospreay a fist bump. Ospreay offers a fist bump to PAC, but gets one from Marina Shafir instead, as PAC simply walks away, leaving his longtime rival hanging.

Jon Moxley, PAC & Will Ospreay vs. The Rascalz

  • The finish of the match saw Will Ospreay force Myron Reed to submit with an armbar.

Winners: Jon Moxley, PAC & Will Ospreay

Grade: B-

It’s surreal to see Will Ospreay actually join forces with the Death Riders. Having said that, I believe Ospreay will be the one to destroy Jon Moxley’s faction from the inside.

As for the match, it was decent trios action that ended with another rare submission win for Ospreay.

Samoe Joe teases his future in AEW

Samoa Joe says it’s been a rough week for The Opps, but that doesn’t mean the mission changes. Joe says The Opps is an organization of opposition and, more importantly, opportunity. The Opps stand in opposition to anyone who stands in their way and provide opportunities to men who deserve them.

Joe puts over HOOK, Shibata, and Bowens before announcing he’ll be stepping away for a few months because “Hollywood’s ringing.” He tells his stablemates they know how things work and expects them to handle business while he’s away.

As Joe leaves the frame, both Bowens and HOOK bump into each other while approaching center, teasing a potential feud for The Opps’ top spot in Joe’s absence.

Backstage attack

Lexy Nair is trying to get a word with TayJay when she bumps into Divine Dominion. Lena Kross says that didn’t even last 30 seconds, while Megan Bayne looks into the camera and says, “Better luck next time.” We then see Tay Melo and Anna Jay laid out near the equipment area.

Andrade El Idolo vs. Ace Austin

  • The finish of the match saw Andrade hit Ace Austin with a spinning elbow followed by The DM for the win.

Winner: Andrade El Idolo

Grade: B-

That one “fan” was a bit too excited to see Andrade in the flesh. So much so that she grabbed him and crossed the barricade. El Idolo, being a gentleman, lifted her and placed her back behind the barricade. Yes, that was the highlight of the open challenge.

Kris Statlander vs. Hikaru Shida – Philly Street Fight

  • The finish of the match saw Kris Statlander hit Hikaru Shida with a jumping piledriver for the win.

Winner: Kris Statlander

Grade: A-

What better way to send the crowd home happy than a Philadelphia Street Fight. This match featured light tubes, kendo sticks, chairs, and everything in between.

Statlander is crazy for agreeing to get her fingers run over with a bicycle. Harley Cameron’s timely assist proved to be the ultimate difference-maker against Shida.

Overall Grade: B+

I’ll start by addressing the elephant in the room: the AEW World Title picture, which I feel is getting overcrowded even for my taste. Yes, the world title has to be the most important prize in the company, but showcasing so many contenders is making the program feel convoluted. This type of booking is better suited (in my opinion) for the TNT Championship, which ideally should serve as a stepping stone to the world title.

Speaking of the TNT title, the champion Kevin Knight delivered a solid heel promo. Moving on to the opening contest, Chris Jericho looked great, but credit goes to Ricochet for doing the heavy lifting. I’m also looking forward to Jericho’s feud with Ciampa.

Both qualifying matches in the Owen were strong. I feel like AEW missed an opportunity to tease a future feud between Cope, Cage, and The Young Bucks tonight on Dynamite. The Bucks could have shown up, and both teams could have been attacked by The Dogs to set up a tag team title program.

It’s hard to sit through and cover a three-hour uninterrupted AEW broadcast, so yes, here’s my rant. Having said that, the main event of AEW Collision was great, and props to both women for putting their bodies on the line for the AEW sickos.

That’s it for tonight, and this writer will be back with more AEW Dynamite coverage next week.
