Tony Khan has shared more details about Mick Foley’s new role in AEW, and it looks like the company president is expecting the wrestling legend to contribute in more than one way.
Earlier this week, AEW officially announced that Foley will appear at the AEW Double or Nothing Buy In pre-show alongside Renee Paquette. It will be Foley’s first appearance for AEW after years of fan speculation.
Tony Khan says Mick Foley could contribute in multiple ways in AEW
During the AEW Double or Nothing media interaction (via Fightful Select), we asked Khan about Foley’s role in AEW. Khan explained that the company mainly sees Foley as an on-screen host. However, he could be a mentor and creative voice behind the scenes.
“Right now, he’s working as an on-air host. But I also think, with Mick Foley, he’s a brilliant wrestling mind. He is going to bring insights and ideas. And he is going to work with the wrestlers and have ideas for the show. So, I hope he will contribute in a number of ways,” Khan said.
Khan also said that Foley brings much more to the company than just nostalgia. He added that Foley is interested in helping in several areas, including media appearances, ambassador work, and creative contributions backstage. Khan also mentioned that the wrestling legend is expected to appear at many AEW PPVs moving forward, along with occasional TV appearances.
“I know he is interested in helping out in every way he can, including as an ambassador, doing media, hosting the shows. He will be at all the pay-per-views and sometimes at TV, too…not every show, but at some of the events and always at the pay-per-views…for the most part. I think, you know, he is going to be at a lot of the upcoming events for sure. So, I’m very excited to have Mick joining us in AEW and being a part of the team. And I’m sure there’s a number of different ways he will have ideas and things he can do to contribute,” Khan added.
Foley’s AEW arrival also comes after he publicly distanced himself from WWE. The wrestling legend previously explained that he stepped away from the company because he was uncomfortable with WWE’s connection to the current political administration following comments made by Donald Trump about filmmaker Rob Reiner.
