Pat McAfee took to social media after WWE SmackDown to make a bet with the wrestling community on the outcome of WWE WrestleMania 42.
Following Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, in which McAfee was revealed to be the man speaking to Orton on the phone, McAfee took to social media. He bet the IWC (the Internet Wrestling Community, the name for fans online) that if Orton doesn’t beat Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 42, he will forever leave the company.
“Never back on any wrestling television if Randy Orton loses at WrestleMania,” said McAfee. “I don’t know how long the business will last if that happens, but I will never come back. I am here on a mission to motivate a 6-foot-five, 270-280 pound monster to lead the WWE.”
For weeks, Orton had sought guidance from an unknown presence on the phone. Rumors suggested that anyone from Kevin Owens to The Rock to even Vince McMahon was on the other line. In the end, McAfee emerged as the mystery caller, who sided with Orton over their distaste for WWE’s direction.
The moment came together after Orton and Cody Rhodes began the night with a brawl. McAfee appeared in the ring, dressed in a Randy Orton shirt, and low blowed Rhodes. Orton then got to hitting McAfee with a chair while McAfee took to the mic.
Pat McAfee explained that Randy called him. The Viper said that WWE has “gone in a direction that none of us like.” He then said that “the forgotten WWE fans” were all wondering what WWE had become. Moreover, McAfee had been urging Orton to be more aggressive leading up to WrestleMania 42.
“Why, when I turn on WWE TV, I have to watch two five-foot-five guys do a 45-minute Iron Man match for 10 weeks straight for no rhyme or reason, when Randy Orton is around?”
