This past Monday Night, Raw was live from Brussels, Belgium. The show kicked off with the return of a newly turned heel, 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena. Cena cut a promo addressing why he sold his soul to the Great One, The Rock.
Recently, while speaking on the latest episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast, ECW veteran Tommy Dreamer praised Cena’s promo. He mentioned that this was one of the best promos he had ever seen.
“[That] was one of the best promos I’ve ever seen. Because he answered every question we needed. Everything John Cena used to do as a babyface, [he] is doing as a heel. He’s embracing this heel. Even saying, ‘I’m not going to change one thing.’ Because we have discussed about it. When people change or what do they do? ‘I’m not changing my music because my voice is on that music.’ God, it was so brilliant.
“And man, when Cody came out there from John Cena’s whiny, crying, bitching promo, He got a hero’s welcome. Everybody standing on their feet, cheering for Cody Rhodes is exactly what you wanted. He is the one that made this the main event of WrestleMania. And that promo alone.”
That was John Cena’s ‘Hard Times’ promo
Dreamer also believes Cena is one of the top ten greatest promos of all time. Going a step further, Dreamer feels like Cena’s RAW promo was his own personal “Hard Times” promo.
“That was John Cena’s ‘Hard Times’ promo. That was John Cena’s every single validation of why he is the bad guy. And not only did he talk me in, he built up anticipation. Like I said, he answered every question that you usually want your heel to do. And he didn’t… ‘For my haters, thank you. And for the people that supported me, thank you.’ No. He leaned in on everybody. And John Cena has always done amazing promo work. But you got to put that there at least top three promos for John Cena. Got to put it in the top ten of greatest promos of all time,” Dreamer said.
