Jerry Lawler: John Cena Turned Heel Because He’s Jealous Of Cody Rhodes

WWE Hall of Fame Jerry Lawler shares his thoughts on John Cena‘s heel turn.

Cena turned heel when he attacked Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at WWE Elimination Chamber. He made his first comments about the situation on the March 17th episode of WWE RAW, and he said he was breaking up with the fans.

Speaking with Bill Apter for Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, Jerry Lawler discussed John Cena’s heel turn.

“I gotta tell you the truth, I did hear about it after it happened,” he said. “I saw a replay of it on TV, so I knew what was coming, but I didn’t know how I would react. When I saw it, the way it was laid out was perfect, and the angle on John’s face when he hugged Cody and all of a sudden, you see that closeup view of his face, I mean, I don’t know how to describe it. When I actually watched it, it did to me what it did to a lot of those kids. It took a place I had for John in my heart, it just kind of went away, seeing that look on his face, knowing what he was gonna do, and then watched him do it to Cody. It was indescribable.”

Lawler went on to say that he thought that Cena turned because he was jealous of the fact that Rhodes now had his spot as the top guy.

“I think I know one of the reasons is because he wanted that place that he had, for years and years and years, he had that spot in WWE that now Cody Rhodes has,” he said. “I think he was jealous of that. Not that he would come out and say it, but I believe that, deep down, he likes that spot. [Apter says Cena wants to be the star]. Yes, exactly.”

John Cena is set to appear on the March 21st episode of WWE RAW in Glasgow.
