Bill Simmons Blames Tony Khan’s Focus On AEW For Jacksonville Jaguars Struggles

Bill Simmons blames AEW for how poorly the Jacksonville Jaguars have done in the NFL recently.

Shahid Khan has officially owned the Jaguars franchise since 2012. He put his son, AEW boss Tony Khan, in charge as the Senior President of Football and Analytics.

Under the Khans’ stewardship, the Jaguars have only made the playoffs twice, with the last berth coming in 2022. The Jaguars have never played in the Super Bowl, and they are one of four teams to never play in the big game. Due to Tony Khan’s commitments to Fulham and especially AEW, Bill Simmons doesn’t see the team improving any time soon.

Speaking on the Bill Simmons podcast, Bill Simmons criticised the way Tony Khan is running the Jacksonville Jaguars. He claimed that Tony running AEW means the Jaguars football team will never succeed in the NFL due to Khan’s focus being on wrestling, not football.

“One of the reasons they’ll never get it is because the owner’s son who runs the team also runs AEW and writes the scripts for it every week. I just don’t think they’re on the ball,” Simmons said.

They then mentioned how Tony Khan turned up to the NFL draft last year wearing a neck brace. This was due to being storyline attacked by The Elite, and encapsulates Simmons’ problems with how Tony Khan runs the Jags.

Many people praised Khan for selling the storyline injury at the draft. However, it’s clear that others, like Simmons, believe AEW has become a distraction.

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired head coach Doug Pederson on January 6 after finishing his third season with a 4-13 record. The team also fired former General Manager Trent Baalke, and hired Liam Coen as the new head coach and James Gladstone as the new GM.
