Critics and fans alike have often argued that All Elite Wrestling has too many titles. According to a new report, two of AEW’s titles might be consolidated.
At AEW Dynasty, Kenny Omega beat Konosuke Takeshita to win the International Championship. This led many fans to buzz about the company potentially merging this title with Kazuchika Okada‘s Continental Championship. A match between the two has been rumored since Okada joined the company.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that, per AEW sources, this combination has been pitched, and it had been for a number of months. Sapp writes that many in the company consider this to be a firm creative plan. There is no word on how the company could go about this, in terms of whether the titles would form something collectively, be carried together, or get rebranded. Sapp also writes that the match been Omega and Okada has not been confirmed as part of these plans.
Omega is set to defend the International Championship at AEW Dynasty. He will face the winner of the International Championship Eliminator Tournament. This began on the March 12th episode of AEW Dynamite, and it will continue Saturday on Collision.
