One of the most shocking heel turns in recent WWE history is the one of 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena. Cena sold his soul to The Rock and attacked the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes at the Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event. Recently, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff shared his thoughts on the heel turn.
Recently, while speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff compared John Cena’s heel turn to Hulk Hogan’s heel turn when he joined the nWo. Bischoff mentioned that Cena’s turn will never get the kind of buzz that the Hulkster got.
“If you watch it play out and when it’s all over, watch the people standing around the ring. It got a great reaction don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t the reaction that Hogan got. Get two TVs, two monitors, whatever, put those two finishes side by side. Forget about what’s going on inside of the ring, just watch the crowd … Hogan’s turn on an emotional scale of 1 to 10 was probably a nine. I think on an emotional scale, the Cena turn was probably around an eight, seven and a half. I just don’t think this will get the kind of buzz and reaction that the Hogan turn did,” Eric Bischoff said. [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
Will John Cena be a good heel in the long run?
Bischoff is unsure Cena’s heel turn will have a bigger effect in the long run. However, other WWE personalities believe it will be a good payoff. Logan Paul believes the possibilities for Cena as a heel are endless, while Rikishi said he understands what Cena is going through.
Will it be successful? The early indication is yes. Next week on Raw, John Cena will make his return (and possibly share why he sold his soul).
