JBL Shares Origins Of The APA ‘Always Pounding Ass’ Shirt

JBL thought the APA’s infamous “Always Pounding Ass” t-shirt was hilarious. He also revealed that of course, they knew it was inappropriate!

During the Attitude Era, WWE released a questionable t-shirt for the APA. It featured a metal sign on the front that read, “APA: Always Pounding Ass Bar & Grill”. That’s definitely not what the APA stood for, but JBL certainly found the shirt funny.

Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL was asked about the t-shirt and if he actually liked it. Fighting back tears through laughter, JBL confirmed that he and Ron Simmons did understand the double entendre and simply thought it was hilarious.

“They showed us the draw-up for this shirt. We thought it was funny, so we approved it. If it’s stupid, well, we said it was fine.” JBL said.

Some still consider it to be one of the worst wrestling shirts ever. When questioned about which self-respecting wrestling fan would ever wear it, he laughed even more.

“That’s why we approved it!” JBL said. “Look, I thought it was funny—I know the double entendre. That’s why we thought it was funny—because it was so stupid, so corny, that we thought it was great. People go, ‘Don’t you know what this means?’ Of course we do! That’s why we thought it was funny. We were like, ‘Who’s going to wear this? This is insane!’ That’s why we wanted to approve it. Me and Ron—maybe we have a wild sense of humor—but we thought it was funny.”

JBL On Bloody Eddie Guerrero Match At Judgment Day 2004: Watching It Back, I Realized How Gruesome It Was

Speaking with Monopoly Events, JBL reflected on his match with Eddie Guerrero. He called it “gruesome” but admitted it was still an unbelievable experience to share the ring with the WWE Hall of Famer.

“I knew there was a lot of blood—a lot of blood—and I didn’t realize how much until I watched the match back. It was just puddles of blood.” JBL told Monopoly Events.

“It was unbelievable how much blood Eddie lost that night. People have said all kinds of things, that he went into shock and all that, but he didn’t. He lost a lot of blood. He did go to the hospital, but it was an unbelievable experience. Watching it back, I realized just how gruesome it was,” added JBL.
