John Cena has broken his silence after his heel turn during the WWE Elimination Chamber event.
Cena shocked WWE fans after attacking Cody Rhodes during last Saturday’s PLE. After Cody refused to align with The Rock, Cena low-blowed the WWE champion and then proceeded to beat down his rival to close out the show.
The WWE legend has now referenced the heel turn, hinting at his motives behind the character change.
John Cena says ‘do what needs to be done’ after heel turn
John Cena took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to post a cryptic tweet that alluded to his heel turn.
Cena posted: “Have the discipline to do what needs to be done, especially when you don’t feel it.”

Cena’s motives have been kept under wraps so far, and it’s doubtful that we’ll learn much more during tonight’s WWE Raw. This is the only information we have so far, and potentially provides some insight into his character’s controversial actions at Elimination Chamber.
The Rock has been gunning for Cody’s “soul,” with the WWE champion rejecting The Final Boss’ offer at the end of the show. This then led to The Rock signalling to Cena to take out his upcoming WrestleMania 41 rival, implying a stable forming between the two WWE legends. Cena’s post indicates that he was just doing “what needs to be done” to Cody, signalling some larger plans between him and The Rock.
There have also been clues regarding Cena’s motives found in old interviews. He previously discussed what he’d do if he turned heel during a 2024 interview, noting the potential changes to his gear and personality. He also teased how he could potentially turn babyface again.
