John Cena teased how he could become a babyface again after his heel turn during the Elimination Chamber event. Cena had previously spoken about a potential heel turn, and revealed details about how his character could potentially redeem himself.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet back in 2024, Cena revealed the story behind a planned 2012 heel turn for his character. This included Van Vliet discussing The Rock’s then-recent heel turn, with the interviewer making a prescient comment about how Cena and The Rock could both be heels during the same timeframe.

Cena used this opportunity to discuss his thoughts on turning heel and eventually becoming a babyface again. This provided insight into how his current heel turn might play out.
“If you think of the course of human life, no one is perfect, right?” Cena said. “And it’s very tough each day to wake up and live a good life. It’s tough to be mistake-free. So that’s like human trajectory; we all go through patches where we make decisions against our value system.
“We all turn heel at one point, it’s just a matter of if you see the light,” he continued. “And I think that’s what makes a lot of the characters redeemable, is you take a really good guy, and you have them lose their way. It’s Darth Vader in Star Wars, you wanna root for him … don’t give up on that guy, you know there’s good in him. That’s beautiful. Those stories are beautiful.”

If Cena’s current heel turn follows a similar trajectory, we could see the character eventually redeeming himself after aligning with The Rock. Considering the amount of positive work Cena does, including being the individual to grant the most wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, it makes sense that Cena wouldn’t be heel forever. Fans will have to wait and see how, or if, he makes this transition.
