Max No Longer Planning To Launch Sports Tier

Warner Bros. Discovery has scrapped their plans to launch a sports tier. Sports will remain accessible on the standard and premium levels.

These plans were previously announced in September 2023. However, the company has gone in a different direction. Sports will remain accessible on the standard and premium tiers of the streaming service. Per Brian Steinberg of Variety, JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games, WBD, commented on the decision.

“Over the last year plus, we had the opportunity to assess how users engage with sports and news on Max, and we’ve been actively involved in exploring ways to evolve the sports distribution ecosystem in the U.S. We believe that the best place for that content for now is within the Standard and Premium tiers,” Perrette said. “This update ensures that subscribers can continue to enjoy that coveted access within Max, while also enabling ongoing investment in our premium sports and news portfolio.”

AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision have been simulcast on Max since January. Both shows continue to air on TBS and TNT as well.

As previously announced, more AEW pay-per-views are coming to Max in March.
