So what actually went down when Tony Khan and Shane McMahon had a meeting last year?
Last Summer it was reported that Tony Khan and Shane McMahon had a meeting at an airport in Texas. Fans were convinced at that point that McMahon would eventually appear on AEW programming. However, nothing came from the meeting.
After former WWE commentator Jonathan Coachman spoke about the meeting on his podcast, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select) reported more details about what the meeting was about.
Sapp reports that a source close to Shane McMahon confirms that Tony Khan didn’t follow up with McMahon after their initial meeting. This stems from McMahon wanting to “run things” at AEW, despite not having familiarity with the company or business model.
While things weren’t followed up on after the initial meeting, McMahon didn’t take it personally that Khan didn’t reach out.
Despite fan speculation, there were never any plans for Shane McMahon to appear on AEW programming. While Sapp’s source states that McMahon would be open to a cameo appearance he doesn’t see the two sides working together extensively at this point.
