Michael Cole Recalls Being In The Hospital The Morning Of 9/11

Michael Cole has only missed three shows throughout his WWE career, which spans nearly three decades. One of these absences was especially memorable.

Speaking with Logan Paul on his IMPAULSIVE podcast, Michael Cole noted that he had only missed three television shows. He then shared the story of how he and his wife were in the hospital the morning of the attacks on September 11th, 2001.

“One was my wife had a kidney transplant back in 2001,” Cole said. “There’s an interesting story about this. Her brother-in-law was the one who was going to give the kidney, so since he was a living donor, we could play around with the schedule. She was actually supposed to receive her kidney transplant, and we lived in New Jersey at the time,  on September 11th, 2001. We were actually in the hospital that morning when everything happened. They hadn’t begun the procedure yet, so they shut everything down because obviously all the hospitals in the New York City area had to become a trauma center.

“So her transplant was put off for three weeks, and they rescheduled it for a Monday, which happened to be Raw. We were in the hospital, we were in the prep room, we had no idea what was going on. The hospital, it was utter, complete panic. We were like, ‘What the heck is going on?’ ‘Not gonna have your procedure today. There’s been a major accident in New York.’ We of course go outside, the TVs are in the lobby, the stuff is going on, and it was surreal.”
