Michin has confirmed that the WWE have removed marijuana from their list of banned substances.
Marijuana has long been a contentious subject in the WWE. It was used regularly by wrestlers before the 1990s but was made a banned substance in the wake of the infamous steroid trial. This caused many wrestlers to move on painkillers instead, as many became addicted and died as a result.
Since then, WWE always sanctioned wrestlers who were tested to have smoked marijuana in their drug tests. This caused problems for wrestlers like Randy Orton and Jack Swagger, who have been sanctioned by the company for smoking the drug.
However, the restriction seems to have been lifted for the wrestlers, as they have been in many states in America in recent years. This was confirmed by Michin, who recently appeared on THE SPEAKEEZY podcast. (H/T to POST Wrestling for the transcription).
The WWE star revealed that the company took the drug off the banned list “a couple years ago”. Talent is now permitted to smoke on their time off and face no backlash from the company for doing so.
“Because it’s (marijuana) more legal, they’ve kind of accepted it.” Michin said. “So before, that used to be — marijuana used to be on the drug list.”
“They took that off a couple years ago. So, when I get home on Saturdays, I’ll do that, and just chill out all day. Then I get back into the gym on Sunday. Sunday through Wednesday, I work out…” Michin added.
