Report: Road Dogg Named Co-Lead Writer Of WWE SmackDown

Former D-Generation X member, Road Dogg Brian James has been named the co-lead writer of WWE SmackDown.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Road Dogg has been named the co-lead writer of WWE SmackDown and will work alongside John Swikata moving forward.

If this kind of sounds familiar to you, there’s a good reason for that. In 2016, Road Dogg began writing for WWE SmackDown. He would eventually be promoted to lead writer of the show.

Brian James would step down from this position following WrestleMania 35. He was released by the company a few years later in 2022. James wouldn’t gone for long however as he was hired back on eight months later by his friend Triple H as the new Senior Vice President of Live Events.

It’s worth noting that in 2025 there are now three members of D-Generation X in charge of WWE’s creative direction.
