CM Punk thinks earbuds are one of the best inventions ever and for very good reason.
The WWE Superstar is one of the best promos in the business. His command of the microphone is unparalleled and is a big factor in him becoming one of the most loved wrestlers today.
CM Punk spoke with ESPN’s Good Guy/Bad Guy, where he was asked how someone get great on promos like he does. The former WWE Champion said that constant practice is the key. He named earbuds as one of the greatest inventions ever, as it allows him to practice speaking where he goes and people just think he’s on the phone, not cutting promos to himself.
CM Punk On Improving Promos, Why Earbuds As The Best Invention
“I just think it’s reps.” CM Punk said. “I just think it’s a lifetime of doing this, and when I say a lifetime, I mean from the time I could talk—I was probably just talking trash to people.”
“When I became a wrestler, I was told, ‘Practice your punches and practice promos.’ So I would talk to myself in the mirror. One of the greatest inventions for me is earbuds, right? Because I can walk down the street and talk to myself, cut promos, and with the earbuds in, people think I’m on the phone. Now, I’m not just a crazy person talking to myself.”
“But I think it’s true—if you’re a master in any field, you start at an early age, and it’s just reps. You become a great wrestler because you’re on the mats, you’re competing. It starts at age five, goes through college, and carries over. You become a UFC champ because of discipline and practice.”
“And I’m at the point now where I think every opportunity—right now, even—I’m talking, I’m cutting a promo. Everything is wrestling to me. Everything’s a promo. And I just think that’s why I’m good at it—because I’m comfortable. It’s just natural. This is like breathing to me.”
