Tegan Nox Was ‘Incredibly Sick’ Due To Mystery Illness In 2024

Tegan Nox explains why she missed some ring time prior to her WWE release last year.

Nox, aka Nixon Newell, spoke with Alistair McGeorge for METRO ahead of an upcoming appearance for ATTACK! Pro Wrestling. During the interview, she revealed that an unknown illness led to her in-ring absence last year.

“I did get incredibly sick for a little while,” she said. “We didn’t really get a legit answer. I went through tests, I was in hospital, a bunch of different stuff. So I think it was down to a lot of stress mixed with other things. But I was really sick, which didn’t help with the time off. I think that started it all, even though I said, ‘I’m good to go, it’s just I get sick now and again.’ But it wasn’t, like, deathly or anything.”

“I think it was a mix of them wanting to be safe, miscommunication with a lot of different people, because it was going from their doctors to outside doctors to hospitals,” she added. “I think it just got lost in [translation] and stuff like that. But I think unnecessary time off started with a necessary time off, if that makes sense.”

Newell says she finally figured things out with her doctors and was on medication, but she was never brought back to WWE at that point. Newell was let go in November as part of talent cuts, but noted she believed she “was going to be released a lot sooner.”

Tegan Nox has not wrestled since July 2024. Her last match was a dark match loss to Blair Davenport at WWE’s July 5 SmackDown taping in Toronto.
