Malakai Black AEW Contract Expired, Now A Free Agent

Malakai Black is back on the market.

According to a new report from PWInsider.com, Malakai Black is now a free agent. Black’s contract with AEW expired on Sunday, and the promotion pulled him from its website.

Black signed with AEW in 2021, the same year he was released by WWE. During his AEW tenure, he was engaged in notable feuds with Cody Rhodes and Adam Copeland, and was the de facto leader of The House Of Black stable featuring Brody King, Buddy Matthews and Julia Hart. The House Of Black held the AEW World Trios Championship one time for a total of 175 days in 2023.

Malakai Black’s last AEW appearance was at the Full Gear 2024 pay-per-view in November. There, he and King lost a four-way tag team title match that also featured Private Party, The Acclaimed and The Outrunners. More recently, the remaining House Of Black stable members have rebranded as the Hounds Of Hell.

During his time in WWE (then known as Aleister Black), he enjoyed a steady push on the NXT and held the NXT Championship one time. Black also won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2019 with Ricochet. Many expect Black back in WWE, as it was noted it’s the “most likely” landing place.
