Last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown featured an awkward encounter between Drew McIntyre and LA Knight, and a new Fightful Select report sheds some light on what occurred.
On Friday’s SmackDown, as part of a qualifying match for the Men’s Elimination Chamber, McIntyre beat LA Knight and Jimmy Uso. However, McIntyre and Knight seemed to get overly physical with one another, with a specific moment occurring when the two began slapping one another.
According to a new Fightful Select report from Sean Ross Sapp, some heat between the two stemmed back to the Royal Rumble. In it, Drew McIntyre was set to be eliminated by Damian Priest before Logan Paul made his entrance. However, the spot came after, something McIntyre was frustrated by and blamed on Knight “getting his stuff in” too late backstage.
In a promo ahead of the match on SmackDown, Knight took to the mic and made mysterious references about it being okay to cry, and even joked about getting his “stuff” in. The references were unknown at first, but McIntyre’s reaction hinted that he understood, and it’s now believed that Knight was taking some not-so-subtle shots at McIntyre for the whole thing.
As for the pair, Fightful Select reports that, even though things got a bit overly physical in the ring, the pair are still good, and there are no issues or concerns about their ongoing ability to work together. McIntyre is also said to not be mad about Knight’s promo, even if one source said the whole thing happening wasn’t “ideal.”
