Report: John Cena’s WrestleMania Plans Have Been Set Since October

John Cena has reportedly known his path to WrestleMania 41 for quite some time.

Back in November, it was announced that John Cena would compete at the WWE Elimination Chamber premium live event on March 1 in Toronto. This immediately led to fan speculation that he would compete in the Elimination Chamber match to earn his way to WrestleMania.

On the January 6 episode of WWE RAW, Cena announced he was entering the 2025 Royal Rumble. While many fans believed he would win the Rumble, he was tossed out last by the winner, Jey Uso.

Later that night during the Royal Rumble Post Show, Cena announced he was entering the Elimination Chamber match.

“What is best for business is I main event WrestleMania,” John Cena said. “And what is best for business is for the first time, I confidently say that I’m gonna win a seventeenth championship. So I’m announcing tonight that I will compete in the Elimination Chamber. I’m saying that because after 23 years of loyal service to this company, I feel that opportunity is earned. And yes, I’m flying back to Hungary to film a movie. So what I’m going to do is give my five other opponents one month to slander my name and bolster their self-confidence the best that I can.

“I told Toronto when I announced my retirement that I was grateful for the city, and I would be back, and I would be back to kick ass. It is time to walk that talk and be who I say I am. I am going to the Elimination Chamber to win. And I’m going to main event my final appearance at WrestleMania and win a seventeen championship.”

John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes has been the plan for WrestleMania 41 for months

While many were shocked to see Cena enter such a dangerous match during his last year as an active wrestler, this has reportedly been the plan for a while.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan since October (or November) was for Cena to win the Elimination Chamber. Cena is reportedly set to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41.
