Jey Uso likes surprises.
Jey Uso shocked the world Saturday night as he eliminated 16-time world champion John Cena to win the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble. According to Jey, it also came as a surprise to his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi, as knowledge of this win was intentionally withheld from him beforehand.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Jey explained the reasoning behind keeping the Royal Rumble outcome a secret from Rikishi.
“My dad called right when I was in the locker room. He called Jeyce, actually, and then Jeyce gave me the phone and I had him on FaceTime,” Jey said. “I was back there with John, CM Punk, my brothers were there, so we did have a good talk. But I love my father. He looks at me just like his son again, rooting for me. It feels good. Because my dad knows everything in the business, man, so I’m not going to tell him everything I want. I want to surprise him, too. And he was very excited, man. Shout out to my dad, man.”
Jey Uso Got Emotional Backstage
In addition to a call with his father, Jey celebrated his victory with backstage hugs from his brother Jimmy Uso and cousin Jacob Fatu as well. While the win hadn’t truly hit Jey at the time of his Pat McAfee show appearance, he admitted to getting somewhat emotional in seeing his family backstage.
“It was emotional, though, when I seen my brothers, waiting on me in the back. And I knew there was a camera right there. I wanted to cry right there when I was hugging him,” Jey said, “but I was like, ‘Not right now, cuz. Not right now. We still working.’ It feels good, man. Feels good. It ain’t hit me yet, though.”
With his Royal Rumble win, Jey Uso has guaranteed himself a title match of his choosing at WrestleMania 41. Currently, Cody Rhodes holds the Undisputed WWE Championship. Meanwhile, GUNTHER reigns as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
