Triple H said that predictable can be good sometimes, but he also highlighted the importance of surprises in wrestling.
Following Jey Uso‘s win in the Royal Rumble match, some fans were shocked at the result. Meanwhile, others saw Charlotte Flair’s victory in the women’s rumble as too obvious, leading Triple H to comment on the results.
At the Royal Rumble post-show press conference, Triple H spoke about the Royal Rumble winners and the results of the matches. He spoke about how the winner was impossible to predict and listed the other wrestlers who could have credibly walked out of the match with the WrestleMania main event ahead of him.
Triple H also stated that “sometimes, predictable can be good”, but he went on to explain that sometimes having no idea what the result is going to be is much more exciting.
Triple H On The Royal Rumble Winners
“I feel that right now, in this time frame, one of the things that has been done very well is that it’s impossible to predict what’s next. I don’t think a lot of people expected Jey Uso to win tonight. Some thought Charlotte Flair might win, but there were so many people who could have won, and the audience would have been happy with any of them.” Triple H said.
“When you look at the women’s division now, that field is so deep—Iyo, Bianca, Bayley. And we still have returns to come after tonight, people who just arrived. You have dark horses like Trish Stratus, Nikki Bella, or Alexa Bliss making a comeback. The field is stacked, and they could really pull the trigger on so many different possibilities.”
“Look at the men’s division—the last ten competitors in the Rumble, even taking out those who entered early. Roman, Seth, Punk. And I know a lot of people don’t like it, but Logan Paul. The number of people you can throw out there now and say, ‘They could main event WrestleMania’.
“This field is so deep, and I feel like this is a really special time. When we get to Elimination Chamber, it’s going to be really tough to predict both sides of it. And to me, that’s exciting. Sometimes, predictability can be good. Sometimes, you know something is going to happen, and you’re still excited for it because it’s the best thing ever.”
Other times, you want to go into it thinking, ‘I have no idea where they’re going with this.’ Contrary to what everyone says—’Oh, this is where they’re going’ or ‘I talked to a guy who talked to another guy who knows’—I can tell you, none of them know. It’s an exciting time.”
