Jon Moxley Details His Mission In AEW, Tells Everyone To Enjoy The Ride

Jon Moxley details his mission in AEW and tells everyone to just enjoy the ride.

Moxley and The Death Riders have taken AEW by storm in recent months, and they have been determined to fix the company by any means necessary. At AEW WrestleDream, Moxley won the AEW World Championship, and he has successfully defended the gold ever since.

Speaking on Close-Up w/ Renee Paquette, Jon Moxley was asked to describe his main goal with this run.

“You have questions, they have questions. Everybody’s got questions. They’re not prepared for the answers,” Moxley said. “We are one mistake away, one bad decision away from setting this business back 20 years. Who’s gonna take responsibility for that? I bear all the consequences around here. I take all the bullets around here.

“So I will bear the responsibility for everything my generation, Claudio’s generation, PAC’s generation, our generation all across the world in professional wrestling, we inherited a nuclear wasteland, and we built it up year after year after year. The business you see today, we are one mistake away from going back to ground zero. Who’s gonna take responsibility for that? Who’s gonna point fingers at who on that day? I’ll take responsibility for it.”

Jon Moxley: My Vision Is 1,000 Jon Moxleys

Moxley went on to detail how his vision was 1,000 Jon Moxleys, and he wanted to build the foundation so that AEW could last long after he was gone. He then stated that what AEW had become was not what he had signed up for, but he was building something new.

“My vision is not one Jon Moxley,” he said. “My vision is 1,000 Jon Moxley’s. I want to backfill this place, I want it to last for 20 years, long after I’m dead, long after I’m gone. Because that is something worth doing. That’s what I was sold on. That’s why I came here. This was supposed to be for wrestlers, by wrestlers. This was about the beauty and the art of the craft of professional wrestling. What we’ve done in here every single day in the Blackpool Combat Club and beyond, what we’ve been about since day one, every dilapidated ring we’ve wrestled in over the last 20 years, that’s what we’re about.

“That’s what this place was supposed to be about, about doing things the way they’re supposed to be done, giving this job, this profession the respect it deserves. It’s not a f*cking party. This is not what I was sold on. We’re gonna build something new. That’s what we’re doing. We’re watering seed. We’re growing something with strong roots and a strong base that’s gonna stand firm and strong against any storm.”

Jon Moxley: Enjoy The Ride

Moxley was then asked to comment on the end goal for the group. Claudio Castagnoli stated that they were there to fix AEW, and that would take as long as it needed to take.

“We’re not here to kill AEW. We’re not here to destroy AEW,” Castagnolis said. “No, it’s quite the opposite. We’re here to fix AEW. We’re here to bring out the best in every single person that we step in the ring with, to get end of what doesn’t need to be here, to lay the beautiful foundation for the future. Will that take days? No. Will it take weeks? No. It will probably take however long it needs to take. But this, this will be our greatest work, and it will last forever.”

Moxley chimed in by saying, “Or maybe everyone could just stop asking questions. Trust in us, and just enjoy the damn ride.”

WrestleZone will have coverage of AEW Dynamite as it airs on Wednesday.
