Dominik Mysterio thought Randy Orton had the 2006 Royal Rumble match in the bag.
The 2006 Royal Rumble match featured a remarkable performance by Rey Mysterio, as he lasted over an hour and ultimately emerged victorious by last eliminating Randy Orton.
Speaking on The Babyfaces Podcast, Dominik Mysterio discussed the Royal Rumble. He looked back on the 2006 match, where his father won the bout.
“Yeah, I love the Rumble. It’s one of those things where you really never know who’s gonna come next, so it really is a surprise,” Dominik said. “But for me, one of my favorite Rumbles is when my deadbeat [dad] unfortunately won. I was a big Randy Orton, so I thought Randy was gonna take it, and then deadbeat just comes in and ruins it.
“But shoutout to Triple H too, pulling him out, being a sore loser, throwing him against the steps,” Dominik Mysterio continued. “I thought that was pretty cool. I was like, alright, this is a done deal. Randy’s got it in the bag. But no. But anyways, I’m excited for the Rumble, man. The Rumble’s been one of my favorite pay-per-views of all time, for sure.”
Rey Mysterio has declared for the 2025 Royal Rumble match, so he will aim to become a repeat winner.
