WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle comments on the “Perc Angle” nickname.
“Perc Angle” has been used as a tear of endearment by many fans as they look back on Angle’s remarkable matches. Usually, it comes as a joke when discussing some of the crazy bumps Angle took during his wrestling career. However, it also makes light of Angle’s past struggles with addiction to painkillers.
In a post on Twitter, Kurt Angle commented on the “Perc Angle” nickname going viral on social media. He stated that it reminded him of a time when he struggled with addiction. He made it clear that he has been determined to help others in their own battles with addiction.
I’ve noticed the ‘Perc Angle’ nickname trending on social media. While I know it’s made in jest, it reminds me of a time when I struggled deeply with addiction and mental health challenges. Those memories are painful, but they also fuel my commitment to helping others. I’ve been clean for 12 years and have since built a life dedicated to purpose and service. Addiction destroys lives, but it’s never too late to get help. I appreciate all the positive feedback and support. To my fans: thank you for never giving up on me. I love you all.

Angle also discussed the “Perc Angle” nickname while speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.
“For the fans, it’s more of a term of endearment,” Kurt Angle said. “How great was Perc Angle? He was awesome. So I know they’re not saying it to hurt my feelings, even though it does. But I know they don’t mean it, and for that, I’m okay if they say it, I don’t want them to say it to my face.
“But you know, it is what it is. It’s a time when I was in a dark situation in my life, and that is the part I don’t want to remember. All the trouble I got into, the divorce I had, and just a lot of things that were going on in my life that I don’t want to remember anymore.”
