ECW legend Sabu’s retirement match has been announced.
Sabu appeared at The People vs. GCW at the Hammerstein Ballroom on January 19th. He came out after Joey Janela defeated Masato Tanaka. Janela said that he would face Sabu in the legend’s retirement match at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9, which will be on April 18th.
Spring Break has been a staple of the WrestleMania weekend group of events in recent years.
Sabu’s bout against Janela will mark his first time stepping into the ring since 2021.
Sabu On Potential Hall of Fame Induction
Sabu previously commented on potentially getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Speaking with with Steve Fall for WrestlingNewCo, he shared his thoughts on the possibility.
“I think probably, eventually,” Sabu said. “A true artist isn’t recognized until he is dead like Rembrandt, those guys. Nobody gave a f*ck when they were alive. When they died, they came through. So I’ll probably get in there when I’m dead. I’m trying to get there. A true artist isn’t recognized until they’re gone, till you miss what they’re doing. ‘Damn, he was truly good. Now we can’t see him no more. Now, he’s the best.'”
