Cope: Ageism Is A Thing In This Industry, AEW Feels Like A New Lease On Life

Cope is thankful that his age isn’t a thing that’s being held against him right now at this point in his career.

All Elite Wrestling‘s Adam Copeland recently sat down with Stephen Brunt on Up Close. When asked what his experience has been like in AEW so far, Cope spoke about how the company has given him a new lease on life that he wasn’t feeling elsewhere.

“It’s felt like a new lease on life, going to AEW,” Adam Copeland said. “It really has for a lot of performers too, where, you know, ageism is a thing. And it’s really a thing in our industry, and the interesting thing with our industry is that as you get older, you get better. Because you have more knowledge, because you’ve felt more audiences, because you’ve been in these positions.

“So nothing really throws you. Mentally, I’m better than I ever was, and that can be the challenge is physically keeping up with the mental. But I feel like AEW, thanks to Tony, who’s Tony Khan is my boss, and he owns AEW, but he’s a massive wrestling fan. He loves it, he looks at it as an art form. He loves to give Sting his proper send-off. And if any man deserves that, it’s a guy like him.

“Because the wonderful human being conducts himself like an absolute pro. He’s just everything you would want an employee to be. Give that guy his send-off. You don’t shame him for being older. You let him ride off into the sunset. He deserves that. That’s what I love about AEW. Then you turn the corner and there’s Will Ospreay, who can do things that I can’t even fathom. Like, how did you just twist and flip and somehow land that thing and not crush the person you’re wrestling? It’s a really, really fun place, I have had such a blast.”
