Hiroshi Tanahashi is set to face Konosuke Takeshita in what will be his final match in the United States.
The President of NJPW previously announced that 2025 is his final full year of in-ring competition. Hiroshi Tanahashi will wrestle his final match at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January 2026. While his opponent for that last match has yet to be revealed, NJPW has confirmed his final match in the United States.
At NJPW Windy City Riot, Hiroshi Tanahashi will battle AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita. Takeshita is the AEW International and NEVER Openweight Champion, having won the latter at Wrestle Kingdom 19. However, it looks like neither of those belts will be on the line in this bout.
NJPW announced the match on their website, confirming that it will take place at Windy City Riot on April 11th in the Wintrust Arena, Chicago. The two stars previously faced off in 2014, where Tanahashi won the bout at DDT Ryogoku Peter Pan 2014.
Konosuke Takeshita also Tweeted about the match, calling it “THE ALPHA VS THE ACE”.
NJPW also confirmed that NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd will defend his title against Tomohiro Ishii in an Iron Man Match. This comes after their match at NJPW Battle in the Valley ended in a time-limit draw.
