Eric Bischoff: You Can Criticize Vince McMahon, But His Vision Led To WWE On Netflix

Eric Bischoff says you can criticize Vince McMahon, but he had a key role in setting up WWE’s Netflix move.

WWE announced their monumental Netflix deal in January 2024. Just days after the announcement, Vince McMahon resigned from WWE and TKO after Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE, alleging that she was the victim of physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, and trafficking. McMahon denied the allegations, but he remains under investigation.

Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff discussed the evolution of content distribution in wrestling. He went on to highlight how Vince McMahon had set WWE him for the major opportunity they received with their move to Netflix.

“Vince McMahon, you can criticize Vince, there’s a lot to criticize,” he said. “But you cannot criticize his vision and his focus on achieving things from that vision. And the [streaming], to abandoning pay-per-view, which represented probably a minimum of 25 percent of their net revenues. Abandoning that format and taking a new approach with [streaming] is what set WWE up for the Netflix opportunity they’ve received now.” (H/t Wrestling Inc. for the transcription)
