Vince McMahon‘s reps issued a statement following the latest motion that Janel Grant‘s counsel filed.
Janel Grant’s lawsuit against WWE, Vince McMahon, and John Laurinaitis continues to progress. The suit was filed in January 2024, and Grant claimed that she was the victim of physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, and trafficking at WWE. McMahon denied the allegations but resigned from WWE and TKO. A six-month stay on the lawsuit recently expired due to the federal investigations into the allegations.
Grant’s attorneys have filed a motion in which they requested a status conference as they claimed that they needed more time to assess the SEC’s announcement about Vince McMahon settling his charges as they continued to work on an amended complaint.
Vince McMahon’s reps sent a statement from his attorney, Jessica T. Rosenberg, who said that there was no indictment from the McMahon criminal investigation:
“The recent federal investigation resulted in no criminal indictments from the SDNY, while the SEC settlement relates to minor accounting issues at WWE that have nothing to do with this case. Any claims to the contrary made by Janel Grant’s team are just another desperate PR stunt. (H/t BJ Bethel)
Vince McMahon’s Attorneys File Motion
Additionally, per John Pollock of POST Wrestling, Vince McMahon’s team filed opposition to Grant’s request, as they requested the court to move the pending motion to compel arbitration or to order Grant to respond no later than January 20.
In the filing, McMahon’s team argued that the plaintiffs could have filed an amended complaint already, and they noted that the deadline was January 13. McMahon’s team also claims that if the SEC’s ruling does not constitute “compelling circumstances” to extend the period as Grant requested, so there is no need for a status conference. Furthermore, they request that if the extension is granted, it be no later than next Monday.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
