Sumie Sakai Officially Retires At NJPW Battle In The Valley

Sukie Sakai officially retired at NJPW Battle in the Valley.

At NJPW Battle in the Valley, Sakai competed in her retirement match as she teamed up with EVIL and SHO to face Hiromu Takahashi, Mayu Iwatani, and Yuka Sakazaki. Takahashi’s team emerged victorious, and the crowd gave Sakai an ovation after the match. Sakai also received a ten-bell salute as the locker room showed their respect for the legend.

Sumie Sakai debuted in 1997 and had a prominent run in Japan. She started competing in the United States in 2002, and she wrestled for Ring of Honor in the promotion’s early years. Sakai had multiple stints with ROH, and she was the inaugural Women of Honor World Champion.

Sakai has held titles in multiple promotions around the world, including All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling and DDT Pro-Wrestling.
