Report: The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes Not Planned For WWE WrestleMania 41

The Rock and Cody Rhodes were seemingly set to face each other at WrestleMania at one point. However, the match reportedly won’t be happening.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that, per WWE sources, a match between The Rock and Cody Rhodes had been planned for WWE WrestleMania 41. Meltzer wrote that these sources said that the match was no longer happening. It was also noted that the company could still return to the idea of Roman Reigns facing The Rock at some point.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) then reported an update on the situation. He wrote that a match between Rhodes and The Rock is not the plan for WWE WrestleMania 41. As previously reported, the plan in motion was for Rhodes to face John Cena at the show. Sapp wrote that this plan was used because the company did not expect The Rock to compete at WWE WrestleMania 41.

Per Sapp, creative is still under the impression that The Rock will not wrestle at WWE WrestleMania 41. As always, this could change. Sapp also wrote that The Rock and Cody Rhodes filmed something at the “Moana 2” premiere, and sources said that they “squashed things.”

The Rock appeared on the WWE RAW on Netflix premiere on January 6th. There, he praised Rhodes and even gave him a hug. When The Rock appeared at NXT New Year’s Evil, he told fans to enjoy the ride.

It is not currently known when The Rock will return to WWE programming.
