A new report provides an update on Malakai Black potentially returning to WWE.
On January 8th, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that Malakai Black was believed to be finishing up with AEW, if he hadn’t already. Sapp then reported that Black was not expected back in AEW.
Dave Meltzer reported an update in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He wrote that the word backstage was that he was gone from AEW, but no one would fully confirm his departure. Meltzer reiterated that no one expects him back.
The report noted that there was talk within WWE that he was expected back there when his contract expired, which had been the case for some time. Per Meltzer, there has been talk in WWE creative about him. (H/t Joseph Currier of F4WOnline.com)
Black, previously known as Aleister Black, is a former NXT Champion. WWE released him in 2021, and he signed with AEW and debuted that July. During his time with AEW, he formed the House of Black and won the AEW World Trios Championship. He has not wrestled since AEW Full Gear in November.
