AEW Dynamite Results:

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with a match between Will Ospreay and Buddy Matthews.

Will Ospreay vs. Buddy Matthews

  • The finish of the match saw Will Ospreay hit Buddy Matthews with the Hidden Blade to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Will Ospreay

After the match, Ospreay gets on the microphone and puts Matthews over. Ospreay says Matthews and King don’t need to follow a leader. Ospreay tells Matthews if he ever needs someone in his corner, he’s got his back. The two men shake hands.

Grade: A

A great way to kick off Dynamite this evening with some in-ring action between two of the best in the industry right now. Ospreay picked up the win, but Matthews looked great in defeat. I think 2025 is gonna be a big year for him in this company.

Private Party celebrate on AEW Dynamite

A video package plays recapping last weekend’s Wrestle Dynasty event that took place in the Tokyo Dome.

AEW World Tag Team Champions Private Party come out with a bunch of women and celebrate on the stage. Isiah Kassidy says they are here to celebrate their championship victory last week on Collision. Kassidy is interrupted by The Hurt Syndicate and MVP says he wants to party too, they aren’t all business all the time.

MVP says he invented the velvet ropes and the VIP status, and Kassidy agrees. MVP proposes a toast to Private Party. Lashley proposes his own toast to the Hurt Syndicate taking the AEW World Tag Team Titles.

Bobby Lashley (w/ MVP and Shelton Benjamin) vs. Mark Briscoe

  • The finish of the match saw Bobby Lashley place Mark Briscoe in the Hurt Lock, Briscoe passed out in the hold.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

After the match, Lashley and Benjamin continue to assault Briscoe. This brings Private Party to the ring with steel chairs to back the Hurt Syndicate off.

Grade: B+

This was a very fun match. While the finish for me was never in doubt, this was a first-time match to my knowledge and it didn’t disappoint. I’m looking forward to seeing The Hurt Syndicate challenge Private Party. That match should be damn good.

Who will face Jon Moxley next week for the World Championship on AEW Dynamite?

Men’s Casino Gauntlet Match

Order of entry:

  1. Jay White
  2. Hangman Page
  3. Wheeler Yuta
  4. Ricochet
  5. Adam Cole
  6. Daniel Garcia
  7. Powerhouse Hobbs
  8. Roderick Strong
  9. Lance Archer
  10. Kyle O’Reilly
  11. Jeff Jarrett

The finish of the match saw Powerhouse Hobbs hit the spinebuster on Kyle O’Reilly to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Powerhouse Hobbs

After the match, Renee Paquette interviews Powerhouse Hobbs in the ring. Powerhouse Hobbs says Jon Moxley is the one who brought him to AEW. Hobbs says next week he’s going to shock the world and make Moxley his bitch.

Grade: B+

Push comes to shove, this was probably the most star-studded Casino Gauntlet match that AEW has ever done. I like the Hobbs win as his last big match against Moxley was for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship when he injured his knee and missed several months after. Should be fun to see those two men face off again next week.

Jeff Jarrett has doubts, enter MJF

Jeff Jarrett joins Ian Riccaboni in the ring after the match ends and questions if he still has what it takes to climb that mountain. This brings out MJF who tells Riccaboni to get out of his ring. MJF introduces himself to Jarrett and says he’s the greatest AEW Champion of all time.

MJF says he wants his Triple B back but it seems like a lot of work. Friedman runs down everyone going after the title right now and says no one is worthy of holding his title. MJF says if anyone is worthy to hold the Triple B right now it would be Jeff Jarrett.

MJF says he knows Jarrett wants to be AEW World Champion, but the clock is ticking. Friedman reveals that the contract Jarrett signed is only for one more year because that’s all he was worthy of getting. MJF says Jarrett only has one year left to prove that he still has it.

Will Jeff Jarrett make a deal with The Devil…?

Friedman says he can help Jarrett get to the top of the mountain again, but he wants a favor… when he helps him win the title, he’s first in line for a title shot. Jeff Jarrett says MJF’s title reign was impressive, but he’s still too young to know you learn more from your failures than your successes.

Jarrett says MJF is a one-hit wonder, but he knows the road he has to go down. Jarrett said he would scratch and crawl his way back to the top of the mountain. Jeff reveals MJF had the opportunity to enter the Casino Gauntlet tonight but chose not to and to wheel and deal instead. Jarret says he’s going to make the most of 2025 and says he doesn’t need MJF and calls him an entitled prick.

A video package plays recapping Jon Moxley’s attack on Darby Allin on the final episode of AEW Rampage.

The Rated R Superstar makes his way to the ring and calls out Jon Moxley. Cope says he crossed the line when he went after FTR. Cope says no one has fought through what he has to be standing in this ring and he will die on that hill because he’s a different animal entirely.

Copeland runs down the injuries he’s had in the ring but still managed to win those matches. Cope wants to know what Moxley can do to him that hasn’t been done before. Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta come out through the crowd.

A timely assist from Powerhouse Hobbs

FTR attacks The Death Riders in the crowd to immediately even the odds. Copeland and Moxley brawl in the ring. Marina Shafir and PAC hit the ring to regain the numbers advantage once again. Moxley puts the Bulldog Choke on Copeland and knocks him out.

Mox brings out the stupid plastic bag, but before he can do anything with it Powerhouse Hobbs makes his way to the ring as he and FTR force the Death Riders to retreat.

Harley Cameron will face Mariah May on Collision

Mariah May is backstage talking up the first-ever Women’s Casino Gauntlet match next week. Harley Cameron interrupts and challenges May to a match on Collision. May agrees but it’s agreed that it’s a non-title match. Very entertaining.

Winner enters #1 in the Women’s Casino Gauntlet: Toni Storm vs. Kris Statlander vs. Willow Nightingale

  • The finish of the match saw Kris Statlander hit Toni Storm with Staturday Night Fever to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Kris Statlander

Grade: A-

The show definitely got back on track with this match. Great stuff from all three women. Statlander winning this surprised me, but with Storm likely to win next week, her not winning tonight makes sense.

The Best Bout Machine returns on AEW Dynamite

Kenny Omega makes his way to the ring. The crowd chants welcome back. Omega says it was a little over a year ago when he got checked into the hospital and was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Omega says the disease took two feet of his intestines away from him and if he didn’t get checked out when he did, he would be dead. Kenny says the last year has been a roller coaster ride.

Omega says after his successful surgery he wanted to know how long his recovery was going to be and when he could get back in the ring. Kenny says the doctor told him he’d be lucky if he could get back to a normal life let alone return to the ring. Omega says he went back to the hospital on four separate occasions for pushing himself too hard and he questioned if he could do it.

Kenny says he tested his theory last week in Tokyo and he found his purpose tonight, if he’s not in this ring giving it everything he has, then he’s just not living. Omega says even though he might not be the same guy, this new version who isn’t concerned about money, power, or revenge, can still prove…

Don Callis sticks his nose where it doesn’t belong

Omega is interrupted by Don Callis who makes his way to the ring. As Callis goes to speak Omega chases him onto the stage and attacks him. This brings out Lance Archer and Brian Cage who attack Omega and toss him back in the ring.

Kyle Fletcher joins the fray and all three men attack Omega. Cage punches Omega in the stomach. Will Ospreay hits the ring with a chair and goes swinging. The Don Callis Family leaves the ring. Ospreay teases hitting Omega with the chair for a second before dropping it. Omega and Ospreay face off as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Review:

The show started the right way and flowed beautifully until the end of the Casino Gauntlet match. Three back-to-back in-ring promos really hurt the flow of the show for me, personally. These things should have been spaced out throughout the show.

For example, doing Copeland’s segment earlier would explain why he wasn’t in the Casino Gauntlet match when he’s so obsessed with Moxley right now. Things like this need to be adjusted going forward in my opinion.

With that being said, all of the matches tonight were excellent. And if the Copeland segment was moved to earlier in the show, it really would have helped things out a great deal. The close of the show with Kenny Omega brings some intrigue between him and Ospreay if they can work together to take down the Don Callis Family. I’m interested in seeing how this all plays out!

Grade: B+
