Stephanie Vaquer earned a shot at the NXT Women’s North American Championship at WWE NXT New Year’s Evil, but Shotzi argued that she deserved an opportunity, too.
At WWE NXT New Year’s Evil, Stephanie Vaquer faced Kelani Jordan, Cora Jade, and Lola Vice in a Number One Contender’s Match for the NXT Women’s North American Championship. The four competitors battled it out in a hard-fought match. In the closing moments, Jordan went for a 450 Splash, but Jade moved. Vice then dropped Jordan with a backfist. Vaquer took Vice out with a kick, and she hit Jordan with a back-breaker for the win.
In doing so, she earned a shot at the NXT Women’s North American Championship. Fallon Henley currently holds the title. She won the gold by defeating Kelani Jordan at NXT Halloween Havoc.
Here’s how the match broke down, courtesy of our play-by-play:
A four-way brawl breaks out. Jordan lands a dropkick that sends Jade out of the ring. After the break, Vaquer lands a flurry of strikes on the field. Jordan eats a nasty dragon screw in the ropes from Vaquer. Vice unloads on Vaquer with strikes. Vice lands a running hip attack on Vaquer but misses her attempt on Jordan. Vaquer lands a dive. Jordan follows that with a moonsault. Everyone trades pins. Jordan misses a 450 splash. Vice catches her with a spinning back fist. Vaquer superkicks Vice and hits her finish on Jordan for the win.
Update: NXT General Manager Ava later announced that Vaquer would face Shotzi, who pinned Henley in a six-woman tag team match at NXT New Year’s Evil, to determine the number one contender. The match was confirmed for the January 14th episode of NXT.
