Santino Marella‘s first experience working at WrestleMania was certainly a memorable one.
TNA Wrestling‘s Santino Marella was a recent guest on the No Name Wrestling Podcast. When asked about working with Snoop Dogg at WrestleMania 24, Marella tells a story about smoking weed on Snoop Dogg’s bus before their match later that evening.
“Yeah, so it was my first Wrestlemania, and I was doing something with Snoop,” Santino Marella recalled. “So I get there and walking around, and it’s a different atmosphere. The catering is a little extra nice, and everyone’s in a great mood. And back then, before the [WWE] Network, if you’re on the show, it was a big part of your payday. You got paid specifically for your WrestleMania appearance, so everyone’s happy.
“And they go, ‘Yeah, can you please go to Snoop Dogg’s bus and just talk briefly about what you’re gonna be doing later.’ And as I walked on the bus, I was greeted with a blunt and I was like, okay, it’s Snoop Dogg, right? You’re not gonna say no. And I smoked with him, I don’t know what kind of weed he has, but I was in the best mood ever. I was walking around feeling this euphoric, uplifting weed. I just had a permanent smile on my face all day, I went right to catering, I was eating everything.”
Snoop Dogg has a stiff clothesline
Santino Marella and Snoop Dogg were at ringside for the Playboy BunnyMania Lumberjill match that saw Beth Phoenix and Melina defeat Maria Kanellis and Ashley Massaro. As for their interaction during the match itself, Marella recalls the very stiff clothesline he received from the world-famous rapper.
“And working with Snoop, he is a true pro,” Santino Marella continued. “And like, we did something, they go, ‘That’s good.’ He’s like, ‘Are you sure? We can do it again.’ He wanted to make sure that they were completely happy, and he was willing to do it over and over again till it was perfect. And I’m like, man, this guy’s a megastar.
“He can very easily just bang one out and they go, good enough, and get on with it, but he really wanted to deliver exactly what they wanted. I was very impressed with his work ethic. And he clotheslined the hell out of me too. Because they told him, don’t worry about working it, just lay it in. I’m like, okay, but he’s like 6’5″ right? It was a hard clothesline, I definitely remember that.”
