John Cena Wants To Set Realistic Expectations For His Retirement Tour, Addresses Potential Title Win

John Cena wants another chance in the ring to become the WWE Champion, but he’s not sure that it will actually happen.

The WWE Superstar is teetering on the edge of greatness when it comes to world title reigns. He is a 16-time world champion, tied with Ric Flair for the most title reigns as acknowledged by the WWE.

John Cena is just one title win off becoming the all-time record holder. With his career coming to an end at the end of 2025, he has just one more year to take home the gold one last time.

On the Raw on Netflix Post-Show Press Conference, John Cena addressed the idea of him becoming a World Champion again. The 16-time champ said that he hopes he can win titles, but has to be realistic at this stage of his career. Cena added that he really wants a chance to compete for titles. However, he knows how hard it is in the WWE and doesn’t know if it is in the cards for him at the age of 48.

John Cena is rumoured to be facing WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.

John Cena On A Potential WWE Championship in

“So perspective is everything, right? And if your perspective is me winning championships, well, gosh, I hope I can deliver that. But I also wanna take a realistic look at what’s going on. I’m gonna be 48. If you go to the stats, the math isn’t actually in my favor. I don’t know, maybe I’m due.” John Cena told the press conference.

“But what I wanna do is just let everyone know that this is, I think the biggest question is, this is actually real. Yes, 100%. After December, my last match, I am done. You will see me in an ambassador role in the WWE, but I will not wear this, I will be in a suit. You’ll see the other facets of John Cena because, honestly, we have so many great current and young superstars on the way up, and the business has been great to me, and it is time to move on.”

“So that is the one certainty, and I just wanna set realistic expectations for everyone. I will give you everything I got. You got my word, I always have. I’ve always given you everything I have. I just don’t know what that looks like.”

“So for me to say I’m channeling something to go back and win the day, I think today was the best explanation possible. It’s gonna take a long shot, but never count me out of a long shot.”

“As far as if what you wanna see is winning a championship, man, I really wanna be able to stand in a ring to have a chance. But, man, I’ve also been there day in and day out, and I know how hard it is to go from the bottom to the middle of the menu, to the semi-main event, to get that spot,” added John Cena.

He Says Tonight Was His Last Time In LA

“And what I didn’t wanna do in the last time we share some time with each other, is walk in and demand it, because that’s not fair to the current WWE locker room, that’s not fair to the audience. And that feels bad.” John Cena said.

“I just wanna say, hey, LA tonight was the last time I’m going to stand in LA and say thank you. We’re gonna go to Indianapolis. I’m gonna have one more time on the canvas in Indy. WrestleMania’s in Vegas, I got one more shot in Vegas. “

“And I’m not saying shot at a championship, I’m saying, man, we spent 23 years together. There are fathers that bring their families, there are parents that bring their families. I met so many people that say, I grew up watching you as a kid. Well, this is our last time to get together and make some noise, and whatever comes of that comes to that.”

“But, gosh, man, the power of the WWE audience is an awesome thing,” Cena continued. “I know something like this has never been done before, and a lot of people have a lot of different perspectives. Mine is I just wanna get us together one more time to have a good time. So I’m gonna be enthusiastic, I’m gonna be energetic, I’m gonna be pumped. You’re gonna get my best. I just don’t know what my best at 48 looks like. I could tell you what my best at 27 looks like, even 35, hell, even 40. I’ll do my best, but let’s find out what that looks like first.”
