CM Punk cried for ‘about eight minutes’ after suffering a tricep injury last year.
The former WWE Champion made his long-awaited return to the WWE at Survivor Series 2023. He went on to make his debut in the 2024 Royal Rumble match, finishing second behind the winner and current WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes.
Sadly, CM Punk suffered an injury during that match. He tore his tricep, which kept him out for over six months. He wouldn’t return to the ring until his clash with Drew McIntyre at Summerslam 2024.
CM Punk recently appeared on Nightcap and was asked about the worst injury of his career. He named his recent tricep injury as the worst one so far, revealing he cried “for about eight minutes” after finding out the severity of the situation. He added that he was lucky because WWE is unique in sports in that it allows him to still work while out of action due to injury.
CM Punk On The Worst Injury Of His Career
“Oh man, this one was— I think this one was pretty bad, just because of, you know, my age and everything. I tore my right tricep tendon completely off the bone, and that’s a bad one. Especially in football, I think that’s normally a career-ender, if I’m not mistaken. My season definitely ended that day, that’s for certain.”
“I had a night where I went, ‘Woe is me,’ and I cried about it.” CM Punk said. “I was upset. I had just come back to WWE after 10 years of being gone and was looking forward to doing, you know, just awesome, awesome stuff. And then it all came to a screeching halt.”
“As an athlete, as somebody who’s active every day—you guys know—if you can’t play, if you can’t do what you do, if you can’t go to the gym, you lose your mind. And man, I lost my mind. I felt bad about it for about eight minutes, had a cry, and then realized that, at that moment, it felt like the worst thing that had ever happened to me.”
“So I wanted to do the impossible—flip it and make it the best thing that ever happened to me. And I think we did that over the year.”
“Fortunately for me, in the sport and the business we’re in, we don’t always have to be 100%. I was injured, in a sling, and still in the ring—talking my mess, cutting promos, and stuff like that. I was still a real contributor. That was like a weight off my shoulders.”
