A new report provides an update on WWE Tribute to the Troops.
WWE first held Tribute to the Troops in 2023, and the event was held in Iraq and Afghanistan for the first several years. The company then ran Tribute to the Troops in the United States. Some of these shows were held at army/military locations. The final few events were held in standard arenas. WWE did not run Tribute to the Troops in 2024, which marked the first time it was not held.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that there are no plans to continue WWE Tribute to the Troops at this point. Sapp notes that the company could always bring it back. However, as of right now, the special has effectively ended.
JBL On WWE Tribute To The Troops
WWE Hall of Famer JBL had a key role in the creation of WWE Tribute to the Troops, as he pitched it to Vince McMahon. He recently reflected on the show’s legacy while speaking on Something to Wrestle.
“It’s just been such a cool legacy, such a cool thing to do,” JBL said. “I know there’s been some detractors out there, and that’s fine. And I’m sure some of the criticisms are true. But overall, the Tribute to the Troops, it’s been one of the greatest things I’ve ever been blessed to be a part of. And most people would agree that it has been. I’m glad they’re still doing it.
“They still call me around and say ‘Hey, would you come back and do commentary for Tribute to the Troops?’ I’m always happy to do it. There’s not a big war going on, so it’s not the need to encourage guys around Christmas, which was our whole goal then. But I think it’s important to carry on, just to let people know that we support these guys. Whether you agree with the war or not, these guys are out there doing their jobs because they’re American. Because they believe that’s the right thing to do, and that’s what they’re paid to do. I believe that’s worthy of support.”
