Kenny Omega Wins In-Ring Return At NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty

Kenny Omega wrestled for the first time in over a year at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty.

Omega, a former AEW World Champion, had been out of action since December 2023 due to diverticulitis. After a one-off non-wrestling appearance on the May 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, he underwent surgery, and he remained absent until he appeared at NJPW Power Struggle in November. There, he got into a backstage altercation with NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd. Omega then agreed to face Kidd in his in-ring return at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty.

Fans were buzzing heading into the bout, and the two stars lived up to the hype by delivering a hard-hitting bout. They threw everything they had at each other, and Omega powerbombed Kidd through a table. By the end of the match, both men were bleeding after they hit each other with chairs. In the end, the One-Winged Angel put Kidd down for the count.

The match was evidently so good that it drove NJPW President and Representative Director Hiroshi Tanahashi to tears.

Before Kenny Omega helped found AEW, he was one of NJPW’s top stars. He held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, the IWGP International Championship, and the IWGP United States Championship. Omega also won the G1 Climax in 2016. He returned to NJPW at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17, where he beat Will Ospreay, and he competed the next day at New Year Dash!! 2023.

Omega returned to AEW at AEW Worlds End. He is set to appear on the January 8th episode of AEW Dynamite.
