A new NJPW World Television Champion was crowned at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19.
Ren Narita defended the title against El Phantasmo, Jeff Cobb, and Ryohei Oiwa at the show. Phantasmo was a late addition to the match after he returned at the NJPW Road to Tokyo Dome show event on December 22, where he said that he was cleared to compete after he missed nearly two months following the announcement that doctors had found a small tumor, and he received treatment.
Phantasmo won the bout by diving onto Oiwa and proceeding to pin Narita in the champion’s first defense since he won the title at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling.
This marks Phantasmo’s first singles title win in NJPW. Phantasmo is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion and IWGP Tag Team Champion. He is also a two-time Super J-Cup winner.
