Kurt Angle has an update on his upcoming biographical film, as he says that he’s been in talks with an actor who could potentially play him.
Angle recently spoke with Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho and discussed the potential cast for the movies. He revealed that several actors had been in talks to potentially appear in the movie, including Michael Keaton, Jon Bernthal (Angle’s nephew), and Gabriel LaBelle (Saturday Night) to play the titular role of Angle himself. “It’ll be a scripted movie,” Angle said.”We have in mind Michael Keaton to play John du Pont while Jon Bernthal, my nephew, is gonna play my father, which would be really cool… [Bernthal] married my niece. Right now, it’s actually a Canadian kid [to play Angle himself], believe it or not. Gabe LaBelle, we’ve been pushing that.
“I don’t know if you know who he is. He did the Saturday Night movie. He did a lot of movies with Jon Bernthal. He’s a really popular upcoming actor. The thing is, he needs to put a little more size on his body, but I don’t think that’ll be a problem for him.”
LaBelle starred in 2024’s Saturday Night as Michael Lorne, the creator of Saturday Night Live. Alongside that, he also starred in 2024’s Snack Shack, as well as in Steven Spielberg’s 2022 semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans, where he played a character loosely based on a young version of Spielberg
Kurt Angle On Films About His Life
Angle previously said his movie is based on his own life and journey to winning an Olympic gold medal. Speaking with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, he described it as having Rocky type of feel, “with a touch of The Fighter and Iron Claw.” He noted that this is the first of two potential films, with the second focusing on his pro wrestling career.
“So, for the first time, I’m going to be on the opposite side of the camera,” he said. “And I’m going to be watching these guys do their magic. And I can’t wait to bring this to the world. I think it’s going to be a great story. And what the idea is, It’s to have two different movies. Which is kind of ironic.
“But first one’s about my Olympic story, second one is about my professional wrestling career. So, we are doing the first one first. Seeing how that pans out, then we are going to do the other one. There’s just too much content to put both of them together. And just way too much. So we decided to separate the two and do the first movie first. And the second movie in the future.”
Angle also said that the script is almost finished, and they will look for investors and start casting in the next few months.
