Dax Harwood Reacts To Criticism Of FTR ‘Latching On’ To Talent, Asked To Put The Outrunners In Their Full Gear Spot

Dax Harwood hopes fans could be more understanding about certain booking decisions they see play out on pro wrestling shows.

The 10-time tag team champion recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, who asked if there’s something he wished fans gave more attention to. Harwood doesn’t need more attention for championship accolades or specific matches. However, he wants people to be more understanding or less critical about why certain booking decisions are made.

Harwood pointed out that FTR has been criticized for “latching on” to star talents like Randy Orton, CM Punk and Adam Copeland. He also named The Outrunners and Daniel Garcia as two other names they were accused of “latching onto.” However, Harwood challenged anyone to ask them if they felt hindered by the respective pairings.

“Like I was telling you, there are some people online who like to say that we “latch on” [to other performers]. One of the things [was] people said that we latched on to The Outrunners because of their popularity,” Harwood explained. “I would beg anybody to ask The Outrunners what they thought of us and how they thought of us as far as helping them out.”

Dax Harwood pitched The Outrunners taking FTR’s spot at AEW Full Gear 2024

Harwood then shared that he asked Tony Khan to put The Outrunners in the four-way tag title match at Full Gear 2024. FTR was supposed to be in the match with Private Party, Kings Of The Black Throne (Brody King & Malakai Black) and The Acclaimed. However, he felt The Outrunners had earned a spot, and Khan agreed.

“There’s a lot of things that happen behind the scenes, and you know what? I’ll say it, who cares. I’ll say it — FTR was supposed to be in one of those spots [at Full Gear]. I went to Tony and I said, ‘Hey man, these guys have worked their ass off. They deserve that. Take us out, put them in.’ And he did, he agreed with me,” Harwood shared.

“People said we latched onto [Daniel] Garcia because he was starting to build his reputation and starting to get popular. Again, I would beg anybody to ask Garcia what he thought of us and the sacrifices that we made to make sure that he got exposure and that he got seen and he got over. So I think that is one thing, I guess subconsciously, I wish people would understand more.”

Despite not realizing it now, Harwood believes that eventually, fans will look back and understand why certain things played out the way that they did.

“They’ll look back on it and they’ll say, ‘Oh, okay, that’s what they were doing. Especially in 2024. If you take a look at our 2024,” he pointed out. “We were not the most winning team in the world, you know? There’s a reason for that.”
