Adam Copeland on Wrestling Jon Moxley: This’ll Be Uglier In All The Ways That I Love

The final AEW pay-per-view of 2024 was World’s End. At the event, WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland made his return to the Jacksonville-based promotion. He showed up along with FTR and took out World Champion Jon Moxley and the rest of The Death Riders.

Recently, while speaking to Rick Ucchino for The Takedown on SI, Adam Copeland opened up about choosing to wrestle Jon Moxley. He said that the match against Moxley needed to happen and this was the right moment for it to happen as well.

“I still get amped up. I still get excited when I think about [pro wrestling]. So for me, just the idea of doing that, getting that match, seeing that on a marquee, Cope vs. Mox, to me that’s one that needed to happen. And you can go, should we do it here? Should we do it here? Should we do it here? It’s like, I’m coming back, that’s the time to do this and get this going and tell that story.”

In WWE, Adam Copeland had feuded with both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Now it is time for him to wrestle the final member of the S.H.I.E.L.D., Jon Moxley. Copeland is convinced that this rivalry will be more ugly than his feuds with the other S.H.I.E.L.D. members.

“I think this’ll be uglier in all the ways that I love. [Moxley] reminds me a little bit of Terry Funk. He’s got a little Roddy Piper to him. He’s got that throwback feel, but with a modern take. And that to me is really exciting.

“I’d love to just get in there and just have it be a gnarly fight. A hard-hitting heavyweight match between two dudes who are over 230 pounds and are just gonna take each other’s heads off. That sounds like a good night,” Adam Copeland said.

Are you looking forward to seeing Copeland versus Moxley?
