The Young Bucks considered shaving their heads and dressing in more traditional wrestling gear following their heel turn.
The pair were much different wrestlers in 2024. They leaned into being EVPs, turning heel and wrestling a much more muted style. However, the duo wanted to go one better and change much more about their appearance.
The Young Bucks spoke with the Tunnel Talk podcast where they revealed they originally wanted to shave their heads and wear traditional wrestling trunks after coming back as the EVPs.
“One that Matt keeps pushing me on is that instead of wearing normal gear, we go to the classic like little bikini underwear trunks and shave our heads.” Nick Jackson said.
“There’s just something about stripping away and taking away absolutely everything people have known about us that I like. I even want to lean in more on the EVP stuff.” Matt Jackson added, before noting that shaving their heads wasn’t the best idea in hindsight.
“We didn’t like that one [getting rid of the hair]. I probably would keep that one more of like a joke, but I go well, maybe we should go tot he trunks then like shave your legs and tan. I like the idea of feeling uncomfortable and trying new things. Sometimes it doesn’t work out. But most of the time in our career, the things we bet most on usually work out.”
Young Bucks on moving the goalposts
The Young Bucks spoke with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed about AEW’s new media rights deal. When asked about succeeding after many people continued to predict AEW’s demise, the Bucks noted that critics have been calling for the company’s failure for years.
“People have been predicting our demise since Hangman flipped his phone over and showed the world the AEW logo on that special Being The Elite episode,” Nicholas Jackson said. “People have been rooting against my brother and me, specifically, our entire lives. But I don’t know if we’d know what to do with ourselves if we didn’t have that chip on our shoulders.
“It’s kind of all we know. I have learned though, that you can keep proving the doubters wrong, they’ll just continue to move the goalpost. It’s a fool’s errand if you think you’ll ever change their minds. So let it fuel you all you want. Let it inspire you. But don’t think they’re all of a sudden going to have that lightbulb moment and admit they’re wrong.
“That’s never going to happen. They’ll find a new thing to claim against you, they’ll continue to engagement farm. They’ll continue to parrot silly nicknames from shock-jock grifters. Just win for yourself and let history speak for itself. With more unprecedented success comes even more noise.”
