2024 was a huge year for All Elite Wrestling. Multiple stars made their AEW return and some also made their debut for the promotion. One such star who signed with AEW in 2024 is none other than current TBS Champion Mercedes Moné. The self-proclaimed CEO of AEW made her debut at the AEW Dynamite: Big Business special episode. By signing a contract with All Elite Wrestling, Moné also created history by becoming the highest-paid female professional wrestler of all time.
With 2024 coming to an end, Mercedes Moné shared what her aspirations for the new year are. While speaking to the New York Post, she mentioned that she wants to expand opportunities for female wrestlers and female athletes all over the world.
“This new year, I want to continue to expand awareness and opportunities for female wrestlers and female athletes in general, globally,” Mercedes Moné said.
Mercedes Moné reflects on getting to wrestle Mina Shirakawa at the Tokyo Dome
Mercedes Moné kicks off her 2025 by fulfilling one of her childhood dreams. The current TBS and NJPW Strong Women’s Champion will be wrestling in the Tokyo Dome on January 5th at the Wrestle Dynasty pay-per-view. She will be wrestling current RevPRO Wrestling’s British Women’s Champion Mina Shirakawa.
In the recent issue of her magazine Monémag, Moné shared her thoughts on wrestling at the Tokyo Dome and also about her opponent.
“After my match with Hazuki, I took a moment to share my dreams for the new year. I’m craving more opportunities and more gold, and, oh yes, I’m headed to the Tokyo Dome on January 5 for Wrestle Dynasty! But here’s the thing—who’s stepping up to face the CEO? None other than the incredible Mina Shirakawa!
“Now, where do I even start with Mina,” Mercedes Moné wrote. “When I first touched down in Japan in 2018/2019, Rey Mysterio’s gearmaker reached out to me, saying, ‘You need to meet Mina; she’ll show you around!’ And from that moment, we just clicked. Mina was such a sweet soul, and she took me on an amazing tour of Japan, opening her world to me. Every time I return, she’s right there, introducing me to new experiences, new sights, and new adventures.”
