WWE Wants To Make Characters More Relatable While Maintaining ‘Larger Than Life’ Aura

Rob Fee has managed to keep the Wyatt Sicks group grounded while remaining larger-than-life.

He joined WWE as the director of long-term creative in 2022, coinciding with Bray Wyatt’s return to the company. He previously worked as a horror writer for Marvel and was on board with pitching ideas for Bray Wyatt and The Fiend in his role.

However, since Wyatt’s death, he has had a big hand in the Wyatt Sicks storyline. Rob Fee appeared alongside Bo Dallas on Dead Meat Presents… on YouTube and spoke about how he’s managed to keep the group grounded while keeping their aura.

He likened WWE’s transition to supernatural characters to more realistic ones to the transition from Egyptian Gods to Greek mythology. He added that they have tried to keep the mythical aura of the characters but tried to make them more relatable.

“Look at it this way: when we transitioned from Egyptian gods to Greek gods, Egyptian gods were all like a cat head on a human body or a sphinx—these nonhuman, larger-than-life figures. Then Greek gods came along, and they were just like people—messy, flawed, and relatable.” Rob Fee said,

“I feel like that’s the biggest transition WWE has made. We’ve gone from characters that were larger-than-life but not necessarily relatable—sometimes cartoonish, over-the-top, or unrealistic—to characters that feel more grounded.”

“Now, our talent brings more of themselves into their roles. It’s hard to book a match where a normal man faces an undead zombie impervious to pain. It’s like Superman—how do you work with someone who’s invincible?”

“A big thing we’ve done is try to round out our characters, making them relatable and realistic while still maintaining that ‘larger than life’ aura,” added Rob Fee.
