Sabu doesn’t think he’s eligible for the WWE Hall of Fame but doesn’t want to go in anyway.
The ECW legend was one of the most innovative wrestlers of the 1990s. His high-flying, death-defying style wowed fans in the US and Japan. He also helped make ECW one of the most exciting promotions in the world.
Sabu trained with his uncle, the Original Sheik, before embarking on a career that would involve barbed wire, death matches and explosions. He did have a brief run in WWE between 2006 and 2007. However, he was fired after a disappointing spell with the company.
Sabu recently spoke with DonutShopChronicles365 (H/T to Fightful for the transcription) and was asked going into the WWE Hall of Fame.
The hardcore legend said that he doesn’t think he’ll ever be inducted because he did most of his work outside the WWE, save for two short years. He is open to going into another Hall of Fame, although he recently no-showed his own induction into the indie wrestling Hall of Fame.
“I don’t know. Probably never, really.” Sabu said. “I’m not eligible for the WWE Hall of Fame, not that I want to be anyway, because I didn’t have a Hall of Fame career while I was there. Another Hall of Fame, who knows.”
When he was told that many fans do consider his career Hall of Fame worthy, Sabu was appreciative. However, he noted that while somebody like Drew Carey remains in the WWE Hall of Fame, the concept will remain “bullshit”.
“I appreciate that.” He added. “Rob Van Dam is Hall of Fame material too, but is Drew Carey? Is Drew Carey Hall of Fame material? He goes in it, that means it’s going to be bullshit. If he’s in it, it’s bullshit.” Sabu said.
