AEW Collision Results:
This week’s episode of AEW Collision kicks off with Ian Riccaboni, Big Boom AJ, and Big Justice in the ring breaking down tonight’s card and bringing the BOOM!
The first match sees Continental Classic action from the Gold League as Will Ospreay takes on Ricochet.
Continental Classic Gold League: Will Ospreay vs. Ricochet
- The finish of the match saw Ricochet cheat behind the referee’s back and hit the Spirit Gun on Will Ospreay to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Ricochet
Grade: B+
Having Will Ospreay lose twice in a span of four days is certainly a choice by Tony Khan. The match was very good, but they’ve had multiple matches that were better. The finish was an overbooked mess and I really question the decision here to take what should be your top guy for the next five years and have him lose in this fashion. Not great…
Adam Cole goes face-to-face with MJF
Adam Cole comes to the ring and waits for MJF to join him in the ring. MJF comes out flanked by his own private security. Friedman reminds Cole that he’s the one who turned on him and buries his tan, his ankle injury, and his breakup with Britt Baker.
MJF says Cole is mad because he was his sidekick and he wanted his championship. MJF says Cole turned on him because he’s jealous of him. Cole says he could come back with childish comments, but he’s not going to do that. Adam says he could bring up his hair surgeries, but he’s not gonna do that. Cole says he could bring up the fact that he used his power to get his girlfriend a job, but he’s not gonna do that either.
Adam Cole says he’s the longest-reigning world champion in almost every company he’s ever worked for. Cole says there are things he’s done that he wishes he could take back, but he doesn’t regret turning on MJF. Cole says he just turned on him first and MJF is angry that he did it better than him and he knows it.
Adam Cole catches MJF in a lie
Adam says not only does Cole act like a child, he thinks like a child. Cole gets MJF to admit that he was going to turn on him first. MJF says Cole was nothing more than a pawn to them when they started but then he started to care about someone else and that’s exactly when he became a liability to him. Friedman says Cole became a distraction when he shattered his ankle at Grand Slam. MJF says Worlds End was a fluke, Cole isn’t the Devil… he just beat the Devil to it.
Friedman says he’s going to end Cole at Worlds End. Cole attacks MJF and security gets involved but Cole lays them all out before getting kicked below the belt by MJF. Friedman pulls out the Dynamite Diamond ring but Taven and Bennett hit the ring and MJF runs away.
Kris Statlander lays out a challenge for AEW Worlds End
Kris Statlander is backstage with Lexy Nair. Statlander says what happened with Willow Nightingale on Rampage will be settled between them. Statlander admits that she’s been on a downward spiral since she lost the TBS Championship and hopes that winning it back will set her on the right path.
Kris lays out a challenge to Mercedes Moné for a rematch for the TBS Championship next weekend at AEW Worlds End.
Orange Cassidy pleads his case to Jay White and Hangman Page
Orange Cassidy is backstage with Lexy Nair. Cassidy talks to Jay White and Hangman Page and sends them a message that they need to eliminate Jon Moxley from the equation at AEW Worlds End so that one of the three of them leaves with the World Championship.
Kris Statlander vs. Penelope Ford
- The finish of the match saw Kris Statlander hit Penelope Ford with Staturday Night Fever to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Kris Statlander
After the match, Mercedes Moné comes out and accepts Kris Statlander’s challenge for AEW Worlds End. Moné says she is the greatest TBS Champion of all time.
Grade: B+
Very good match between Statlander and Ford. The finish was never in doubt at it was clear that the TBS Championship match was going to take place at Worlds End. It was also good to see Moné accept the match head-on instead of trying to get out of it. Hopefully, they give them 20 minutes again to try and steal the show.
The Learning Tree brings the DOOM on AEW Collision!
Big Boom AJ and Big Justice are back in the ring and they are interrupted by Chris Jericho and The Learning Tree. Jericho tries to get them to leave and Big Justice calls him a jackass.
Chris Jericho says if being the King of New York makes him a jackass, then he’s the biggest jackass in the world. Jericho says they don’t have time for stupid gimmicks and mentions The Acclaimed. Anthony Bowens comes out and says he isn’t sure why the Scissor King is catching strays but he’s out here to do something about it.
Bowens says Jericho is picking on an 11-year-old and a guy in a walking boot. Bowens tells him to shut the hell up. Big Bill says when someone tries to silence someone else it’s probably because they are speaking the truth. The crowd chants for Big Bill.
Bowens challenges Jericho to come to the ring and get his ass kicked, but Jericho declines and leaves with the rest of The Learning Tree. Big Boom AJ, Big Justice, and Bowens all scissor to end the segment.
A new match is set for AEW Dynamite on Christmas Day
The Vendetta are backstage with Lexy Nair. They are interrupted by Toni Storm who introduces herself to them. Deonna gets angry and tells Storm she’ll face Taya this Wednesday on Dynamite. Storm accepts and says she appreciates the opportunity which seems to just annoy The Vendetta even more.
Continental Classic Blue League: Daniel Garcia vs. Shelton Benjamin
- The finish of the match saw Daniel Garcia catch Shelton Benjamin with a jackknife pin to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Daniel Garcia
After the match, Bobby Lashley and MVP come out and Lashley attacks Garcia from behind. Mark Briscoe comes out with a chair but security tries to hold him back. Swerve Strickland comes through the crowd and lays out The Hurt Syndicate with a Swerve Stomp. Garcia, Swerve, and Prince Nana are in the ring as security holds back The Hurt Syndicate.
Swerve Strickland says he told Bobby Lashley he was gonna get his hands on him between 2024 was over and that’s exactly what he did. Strickland reminds Lashley that this is Swerve’s house!
Grade: A
Awesome match between Garcia and Benjamin. It also had a great finish that didn’t hurt Benjamin whatsoever in the loss. The aftermath of the match with the involvement of The Hurt Syndicate, Mark Briscoe, and Swerve Strickland was very well done. I wonder if they’re setting up another big multi-man match for Worlds End? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Continental Classic Blue League: The Beast Mortos vs. Mark Briscoe
- The finish of the match saw Mark Briscoe hit The Beast Mortos with the Jay Driller to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Mark Briscoe
Grade: A-
This match was a lot of fun. I’m admittingly surprised that The Beast Mortos didn’t win a single match in the Continental Classic, but Briscoe has been on one hell of a roll. The last matches in this tournament leading up to Worlds End next weekend will prove to be very interesting.
Thunder Rosa has heard enough from Mariah May
We get a quick promo from Julia Hart hyping up her match with Jamie Hayter at Fight for the Fallen on January 1.
Backstage Mariah May continues to run her mouth about Thunder Rosa’s father. Rosa shows up and attacks her. May gets away and runs to ringside but Rosa chases her and continues her attack. They are eventually separated as Rosa poses with the title.
Continental Classic Gold League: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Darby Allin
- The finish of the match saw Claudio Castagnoli hit Darby Allin with brass knuckles with the referee’s back turned to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli
Grade: A-
Will Ospreay hits the ring and makes Castagnoli back off from a potential post-match attack on Allin as AEW Collision goes off the air.
AEW Collision Review:
While I didn’t love seeing Will Ospreay lose twice in four days to kick off the show, the rest of Collision really delivered tonight. There was some great action from the Continental Classic and some great segments that really helped set the table for Worlds End next weekend.
It will be fun to see what takes place on Dynamite this Wednesday as the go-home show for Worlds End takes place on Christmas night.
Grade: B+
